Belfast
Belfast offers the buzz and vibrancy of a capital city whilst being a gateway to the rural retreat of Northern Ireland. At the head of Belfast Lough, the city is compact and easy to get around, whether by car or on foot. Belfast is teeming with a multitude of stylish bars, gourmet restaurants, trendy clubs and some of the best shopping in the UK.
The birthplace of the Titanic, Belfast's industrial heritage has shaped a city steeped in culture; shown at theÊCity Hall, the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum and the city's many preserved historic buildings. Also, the city'sÊmany parks, gardens and galleries offer a perfect haven to relax in. Within a couple of hours of Belfast, visitors can marvel at the Giant's Causeway, walk the Mountains of Mourne, fish in Fermanagh or visit the many picturesque villages that abound.
Belfast has a fluid and particular historical and cultural context. Since the progression of the peace process the city has been undergoing major urban redevelopments â with riverside and docklands being prime development areas along with residential, city centre and commercial areas.
As an artistic centre Belfast has a tradition of artist-run spaces and organisations as well as long established art institutions. In 2008 Art and Design celebrates 160 years of delivering artistic practice in Belfast in its home in the University of Ulster Belfast Campus (housing one of the longest running MFA courses in the UK)
With its excellent infrastructure access to and from Belfast is easy through its two airports, Belfast International Airport and The George Best Airport, making links in the UK, Republic of Ireland and Europe acheivable.
