MA Matrix
The University of Ulster matrix is unique in the whole of Ireland and one of a very small number of programmes in the rest of the UK that pro-actively respond to and engage with the need, so evident in contemporary cultural practices, to explore the distinct nature of research approaches, processes and methods in the Arts/Humanities, to encourage new sustainable ways of conceptualising, understanding and evaluating research in this complex and dynamic subject-field, and to communicate it effectively to the wider community.
The matrix programme makes a valuable contribution towards the advancement of the Arts -field in its multi-, trans- and interdisciplinary dimensions by:
- Offering graduates the opportunity to engage conceptually and intellectually with the terms of their research.
- Placing trans-disciplinary and disciplinary research methods, skills and experience at the centre of its concern and linking them inextricably to an interdisciplinary outlook.
- Providing students with the opportunity to develop an advanced understanding of their working practices in the contexts of contemporary culture, intellectual debates and societal developments, of technological and professional challenges.
- Advancing students' professional skills such as self-management, presentation, effective (research) project planning, management, realisation and evaluation.
- Improving students' learning experience at Master-level and increasing the subsequent value for them of studying at Doctoral level.
