MDes Textile Material Product
A fabric and fibre focussed design programme that integrates expertise from textile, art, design and technology in order to advance design and skills, to prototype, test and develop products for functional and aesthetic purposes.
The programme addresses industrial, aesthetic and professional needs relevant to material and object based design particularly, but not exclusively, in the field of fabric and fibre. The course promotes an interdisciplinary and holistic approach to the development of each student's design project. The programme combines a practice-led research methodology with awareness of cultural and commercial contexts including strategies to bring innovation to market.
Textile products are diverse, including fabric development innovations in construction, colouring or interpreting fabrics and the application of textiles to wearables, interiors, architecture and products. The programme encompasses textiles from art contexts right through to technical textiles where performances and function are more important than appearance. The resulting innovations are located in regional, national and global contexts.
